Sunday 26th November 2023 – 12:00 – 16:00
We look forward to seeing you at our workshop! Being aware of the course logistics can ensure you enjoy the workshop fully.
Getting Here:
If possible, please try to arrive at the centre 10-15 minutes earlier so we can start promptly.
Soma Wellness, 57a Kirkgate, Otley, LS21 3HN. It is a 3 minute walk from Otley bus station, and there are regular buses from Leeds to Otley. Beech Hill car park is a 3 minute walk from the venue and parking is free on Sundays. Walkergate car park is a 5 minute walk from the venue and parking is free there on Sundays.
Being Safe:
During the workshop we will be covering indications (what the massage/stretches are good for) and contra-indications (when not to do it) for everything that we cover, and offer alternatives that are appropriate for different people. If you have any health conditions that you have not mentioned in your application form please do let us know and this will be treated with confidentiality.
Food:
It is good to have eaten before the workshop, if you are hungry it can be difficult to concentrate, and you might even feel faint. But try not to overeat directly before the workshop, you need to be able to receive massage and lie down comfortably. We’ll have water, tea, fruit and snacks for the breaks (all vegan, with gluten free options). Any dietary requirements that you have noted down in your application form will be catered for. I’m very happy to cater for special diets. You are also welcome to bring something vegan to share if you wish.
What to Bring:
After the workshop we will provide you with notes and videos detailing the techniques we cover on the day, however, you may wish to bring a pen and a personal notebook to the workshop to make your own notes as we go along. Please also bring your own water,/beverages- it’s important to hydrate!
Other than a willingness to learn, you don’t need to bring anything else with you. I have nail scissors and clippers but remember to clip your nails before the course if possible. When we say that, sometimes people clip the nails too short and then it’s painful to massage. So don’t go over-enthusing with those nail clippers either!
What to Wear:
For shoulders/back/abdomen work on people who prefer their chest area to remain covered, a top with straps would be handy if you want to cover and dress/undress quickly. We will also have lungis (thin cotton sheets) available that you can use to tie around your chest. We also use the lungis to cover parts of the body that are not being massaged.
Lower underwear is always worn during AYM treatments, ideally something cotton/easy to wash and also flexible so we can expose glutes if we end up massaging that part of the body. Saying that, we always check with participants and never massage parts of the body that participants are not happy to expose.
Other than that, comfortable clothing that you can move in is best. If your workshop includes working with the feet, leggings are better than trousers as you don’t want your trouser ends touching people when you work. Generally loose material tends to get in the way when you massage. Warm socks can be nice if your feet tend to get cold. People have different temperature preferences, but we will of course adjust the temperature to suit the group.
Let us know if you have any more questions, and we very much look forward to seeing you soon!
